THE SHORT VERSION

BTR is a fan-engagement platform, not a betting product. You must be 18+. You can have one account. Pools have capped entry — we never let you chase losses. Cash out anytime to a verified bank account. We can suspend accounts for fraud, abuse, or rule-breaking. We’re ultimately liable for our service — you’re responsible for your conduct.

§ 1

Who can use BTR

TL;DR — IN PLAIN LANGUAGE

Anyone 18+ in South Africa. You promise you’re who you say you are. One account per person.

You must be at least 18 years old and physically resident in South Africa. By creating an account you confirm you meet these requirements.

One person = one account. Multi-accounting is grounds for suspension and forfeiture. Sharing accounts is not permitted; if a friend wants to play, they sign up themselves.

BTR employees, contractors, and people responsible for setting odds-equivalents or moderating pools, and their immediate family, may not participate in paid pools they have operational influence over.

§ 2

Predictions & pools

TL;DR — IN PLAIN LANGUAGE

You submit predictions before kickoff. Scoring is transparent and pre-published. One entry per pool, always. Refunds for match cancellations and material rule changes.

You may submit predictions on listed fixtures, join free or paid pools, and view live scoring per the published scoring sheet for that pool. Scoring sheets cannot change after pool kick-off.

Pool tiers

  • Free-to-Play — no entry fee; sponsored prize pool.
  • Paid — entry fees in ZAR. Bronze (R20) through Platinum (R200).
  • Private — invite-only friend groups, optional pot.
  • Donation — 100% of pool to beneficiary (Schools Pools).

Cancellations & refunds

If a fixture is cancelled, abandoned without official result, or postponed beyond 7 days, paid pools are refunded in full. If a fixture is materially curtailed (e.g. weather suspension after the published rule cut-off), the published scoring sheet for that pool governs settlement.

§ 3

Wallet & payments

TL;DR — IN PLAIN LANGUAGE

Top up via Stripe. Withdrawals to verified ZA (or UK) bank accounts. KYC kicks in past R5,000 net deposits in 24h — it’s the law (FICA). Funds are segregated; we don’t lend your money to anyone.

BTR operates a shadow-currency wallet ("SHC") that mirrors your ZAR (or GBP) balance internally for operational reasons. The legal balance is always in fiat.

  • Top-ups: Stripe-tokenised; cards are never stored on BTR servers.
  • Withdrawals: to a bank account we have verified is yours. First withdrawal requires KYC Tier 1.
  • KYC thresholds (FICA): Tier 1 (ID verification) above R5,000 in 24h; Tier 3 (PoA + source of funds) above R25,000 cumulative.
  • Customer funds are held in segregated bank accounts at a SA-licensed banking partner.
§ 4

The whistle & lobby conduct

TL;DR — IN PLAIN LANGUAGE

The whistle is for officiating calls, not players. Lobby chat is for fan banter. Harassment, hate speech, and personal attacks aren’t banter. See Acceptable Use for specifics.

The Whistle is a community-consensus tool aimed at on-field decisions — not at individual players, officials, or other BTR users. Whistles are aggregated; individual whistles are not surfaced.

Lobby chat and direct messages are subject to our Acceptable Use Policy. Violations may result in mute, suspension, or forfeiture of pool entries.

§ 5

Pricing & fees

TL;DR — IN PLAIN LANGUAGE

Free Fan tier is free forever. Fanatic R99/mo. Community Host R499/mo. Paid pools have a platform fee disclosed on each pool detail page before entry. BTR keeps nothing on Schools Pools.

  • Free Fan: R0/month — free forever, no card needed.
  • Fanatic: R99/month — cancel anytime; remaining month not refunded.
  • Community Host: R499/month — 14-day notice for cancellation.
  • Paid pools: platform fee disclosed on each pool detail page before entry.
  • Schools Pools: BTR keeps nothing — the net pool flows to the beneficiary school.
§ 6

Suspension & termination

TL;DR — IN PLAIN LANGUAGE

We can suspend or close an account for fraud, multi-accounting, KYC failure, sanctions hits, or repeated Acceptable Use breaches. You can close your account anytime.

We may suspend or terminate your account, withhold or forfeit funds (subject to applicable law), and refuse service if:

  • You provided false KYC information or use multiple accounts.
  • You attempt to manipulate pools, collude, or exploit a fixture-data error.
  • You are subject to sanctions or politically exposed person designations we cannot service.
  • You repeatedly breach the Acceptable Use Policy.

You may close your account anytime via Account → Settings → Close. We will withdraw your eligible balance to a verified bank account before closure.

§ 7

Liability

TL;DR — IN PLAIN LANGUAGE

We’re responsible for delivering the service we promised. We’re not responsible for the outcome of a sports event, your prediction skill, or your decisions. We cap liability at 12 months of fees paid.

BTR is provided "as is". We make no representations about prediction outcomes — sport is unpredictable and that’s the point. To the extent permitted by South African law (the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 protections cannot be excluded), our maximum aggregate liability to you is the greater of R5,000 or the fees you paid to BTR in the preceding 12 months.

§ 8

Disputes & governing law

TL;DR — IN PLAIN LANGUAGE

ZA law governs. We try good-faith resolution first; arbitration in Cape Town under AFSA rules if needed. The Western Cape High Court has jurisdiction.

These Terms are governed by South African law. We will attempt good-faith resolution of any dispute. Unresolved disputes proceed to arbitration in Cape Town under the rules of the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (AFSA). The Western Cape High Court has exclusive jurisdiction for matters not submitted to arbitration.

§ 9

Changes

We may amend these Terms. Material changes require 14 days’ notice by email and in-app banner. Continued use after the effective date is acceptance. If you don’t accept, close your account and we’ll return your eligible balance.
